Stephen joined Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in 2008 as the Director of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) Atlantic Division, located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). As Director, Stephen is primarily responsible for the management and leadership of the Atlantic Division, but is also responsible for regional partner and stakeholder liaison for NRCan in Atlantic Canada. He is also the Marine Geoscience business line Director for the GSC and as such is responsible for marine geoscience capacity and programs across Canada.
Stephen graduated with a BSc in Geology from Acadia University in 1985. He worked in the private sector as a geologist and then as a hydrogeologist. Stephen joined the public service in 1993 as a Senior Hydrogeologist with Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC). Following a number of management positions within PWGSC, and an MBA from Saint Mary’s University, Stephen spent three years in the prairies working with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) where he was the Director of Agricultural Water. In 2008 Stephen was very pleased to join the GSC returning to his Nova Scotia home and his initial passion of marine geology.
